Usually when folks in the Christian community talk about the Pharisees, it’s with a critical spirit. And it’s because that religious group came under fire during Jesus’s three year ministry. He on numerous occasions rebuked them for their hypocrisy; as much as Jesus criticized the Pharisees’s hypocritical attitudes, He also commended several aspects of their teachings and external practices. You might be wondering why I’m saying all that and I will get to the point. In our day and age, we’ve completely misunderstood God’s grace and have transformed it into a license for living however we want. And when we come under scrutiny (because of the choices we make while claiming to live under grace ) we are quick to bend the scriptures and use it in our favor.
