I read the instance in the chapter 5 of the book of Luke ( The Physician) in which Peter and his companions are told by Jesus to go back out to Seas for a catch ( meanwhile they had already fished all night and caught nothing). We all know how the story goes- they catch so many fish that the nets begin to break, and they decide right after to leave everything behind and follow Jesus. Then after the resurrection , a similar event occurs ( John 21) in which Peter, John and the others after fishing all night and catching nothing, are told by the resurrected Christ to throw the nets on the right side for a specific catch, and this time they haul in 153 fish but the nets don’t break. And that’s what caught my attention- why did the nets break in the Luke’s instance and not break after the resurrection? I think the writers of the gospels were conveying a message that many of us might have missed and that’s what we are going to explore today.
Scripture References:
Luke 5:1-6 ( The breaking of the nets instance)
John 21:1-19( The nets didn’t break)

My name is Tayib Salami and I started Tayibs.com for the sole purpose of exploring difficult questions about the Christian faith that most of us shy away from. In 2017, I entered a very dark time in my life and it’s only by the grace of the Living God that I’m still alive today. It led me to really go deeper in my faith and consider a myriad of questions that I never thought about asking myself or others before. Welcome and enjoy the ride with me.
