I’ve been diving into the book of Exodus and I’m currently reading chapter 3. I’ve read this chapter several times in the past and there are a many pieces of the account that caught my attention. Let me write down some of the verses that I’m wrestling with:
4 When the Lord ( Yahweh is the word translated in the ESV) saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.”
My observations: The Scripture says that when the Lord saw that Moses turned, God called to him. Is this verse referring to the Father and the Son ( in the sense that God the Father saw Moses turned, and God the Son through the Burning bush called Moses or vice versa i.e. God the son saw Moses turned to see, and God the Father called him from heaven). We are told in Scripture that no one can come to God unless prompted by the Spirit of God. The best passage to understand Moses’ holy calling is John 6:37-44:
37 All that the Father gives me ( God called Moses) will come to ME ( To the Son) , and whoever comes to me I will never cast out. 38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me. 39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. 40 For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”
41 So the Jews grumbled about him, because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.” 42 They said, “Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does he now say, ‘I have come down from heaven’?” 43 Jesus answered them, “Do not grumble among yourselves. 44 No one can come to ME ( come to Jesus) unless the Father who sent me draws him ( by the Holy Spirit). And I will raise him up on the last day.
We can clearly see from this passage that the three persons of the Trinity of the same essence are involved in our salvation. Moses’ call involved all three persons of the Trinity and I’ll challenge you to read Exodus 3 in light of John 6: 37-44.
The other verse that also captivated my mind was verse 13.
13 Then Moses said to God, “If I come to the people of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what shall I say to them?” 14 God said to Moses, “I am who I am.”[a] And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel: ‘I am has sent me to you.’”
This led me to DR RC Sproul’s lecture on the names of God and today our main focus will be “YAHWEH”.

PS:All the videos series from RC Sproul added to the website have been thoroughly listened to by myself. And I highly recommend them to anyone looking to deepen his/her faith in Christ. We live in the age of relativism and now more than ever understanding what we believe, and why believe what believe is not optional.
My name is Tayib Salami and I started Tayibs.com for the sole purpose of exploring difficult questions about the Christian faith that most of us shy away from. In 2017, I entered a very dark time in my life and it’s only by the grace of the Living God that I’m still alive today. It led me to really go deeper in my faith and consider a myriad of questions that I never thought about asking myself or others before. Welcome and enjoy the ride with me.
