The Book Of Acts Line By Line E4: Acts 2:1-12 ( Pentecost )| RC Sproul

Spread the love

Welcome back to our study of the book of Acts with the late Dr. RC Sproul. Today we’re going to turn our eyes to Chapter 2 and zero in on the first twelve verses of the chapter. The word Pentecost has been the subject of many controversies especially within the  charismatic movement and I believe we’ll do well in going to Sacred Scriptures to see where it originated from and what it implied.

Before Jesus had ascended into heaven, He told His disciples to go to Jerusalem and wait. On the day of Pentecost, their wait was over: a mighty rushing wind, tongues of fire, and power from on high came upon them. In this sermon, R.C. Sproul considers the ongoing significance of the day in redemptive history when the Holy Spirit empowered the whole church for ministry.

The Day Of Pentecost

The Day of Pentecost: Acts 2:1-12

When the day of Pentecost [a]had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire [b]distributing themselves, and [c]they [d]rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other [e]tongues, as the Spirit was giving them [f]utterance.

Now there were Jews living in Jerusalem, devout men from every nation under heaven. And when this sound occurred, the crowd came together, and were bewildered because each one of them was hearing them speak in his own [g]language. They were amazed and astonished, saying, “[h]Why, are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we each hear them in our own [i]language [j]to which we were born? Parthians and Medes and Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and [k]Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the districts of Libya around Cyrene, and [l]visitors from Rome, both Jews and [m]proselytes, 11 Cretans and Arabs—we hear them in our own tongues speaking of the mighty deeds of God.” 12 And they all continued in amazement and great perplexity, saying to one another, “What does this mean?”

PS: All the videos series from RC Sproul added to the website have been thoroughly listened to by myself. And I highly recommend them to anyone looking to deepen his/her faith in Christ. We live in the age of relativism and now more than ever understanding what we believe, and why believe what believe is not optional.
