The Mourners Are The Blessed Ones & They Will Receive Comfort

Jesus said in Matthew 5:4

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted”.

Many have undertaken to interpret this particular verse recorded for us in the 5th chapter of the book of Matthew; while walking and praying about a week and half ago, the Lord brought this verse to my mind again and I feel compelled to share its meaning with you. First we need to understand what the comforted ones mourn over. They mourn over Sin, God has granted them the ability to acknowledge their sins and their depravity in light of His Holy character. This is why Jesus refers to them as being Blessed. No one can truly be broken and mourn over Sin unless God grants them repentance, it’s the work of the Holy Spirit.  God has opened the mourners’ eyes to the reality of their worthless and hopeless condition. They see the deadness of their callous  hearts, they see and recognize their sinful nature that deserves the wrath of God. They don’t gloat over their sins but they are utterly disgusted over their sins and long for deliverance. They see how their Sin has offended God and they are broken over it , desperate to find hope. To fully understand what it means to mourn over Sin, let’s see how this activity looks like in the life of a genuine believer, see video below
