You can’t love God & Hate your brother or sister ( brother or sister in Christ), it’s a manifest contradiction. Today we’ll find out why it’s impossible for one to claim to love God yet hate his brother. Last week, we talked about the nature and character of the love of God. And we agreed that the love of God was a Holy love. We talked about its meaning, God’s love is like no other, it’s different because God is Holy, He is in a category of Himself. We also said that God’s love was morally pure because it is grounded in His purity, justice and righteous nature. And we went on to talk about how the love of God manifests itself in believers in Christ. Today we’ll wrap up chapter 4 and zero in on verses 19-21.

19 We love because he first loved us. 20 If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot[a] love God whom he has not seen. 21 And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother.
