1 John 5:18-21, the final words of the apostle John. Welcome back to our study of the book of first John, today is going to conclude this odyssey that we’ve been on. Last week, we talked about the sin that leads to perdition, John calls it the sin that leads to death. We looked at the nature and characteristics of a person who might be on the verge of drifting away from God unto eternal death. We looked at several examples in Scripture of people who were doomed to destruction; we mentioned the two sons of Eli and we also mentioned the Pharisees who were so seared in their conscience that they attributed the works of Jesus to the devil. And John was sharing those words to keep his congregation from casting their pearls before pigs. He was really inviting them to be discerning in their interaction with people inside and outside the church. Today we’ll look at verses 18-21, in which John basically gives a quick recap of what he has been talking to his congregation about. See video below

The Passage:

18 We know that everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning, but he who was born of God protects him, and the evil one does not touch him.

19 We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.

20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. 21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols.
